If you're looking to pre-order Apple's new Studio Display XDR monitor today but have an older Mac, beware of some potential issues. According to the compatibility list spotted by Apple Insider, the new display will only work at 60Hz and not at its full 120Hz refresh rate on some older and less powerful Silicon models. Moreover, support for older Intel Macs isn't mentioned at all for either the Studio Display XDR or cheaper Studio Display.

i haven’t found an implementation of the first one. the second targets javascript and should be available in node/chromium at some point. running /(a+)*b$/.test("aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaba") in my browser console still makes the fans spin for 10 seconds, so i’m fairly sure it hasn’t shipped yet. without implementations and benchmarks to compare against, i can only comment on the theoretical differences.
The script grabs the captured audio element, mutes it, sets playbackRate to 16 (the browser maximum), seeks to the beginning, and calls .play(). The browser, in its infinite eagerness to keep the buffer full ahead of the playback position, frantically fetches, decrypts, and feeds chunks into the SourceBuffer. Every single one of those chunks passes through the hooked appendBuffer and gets collected.
